Mouse Activity in Attic — Guelph

Job Overview

Location: Guelph, Ontario
Structure: Average two-story house with white aluminum siding and a raised foundation
Problem: Mouse activity reported in the attic
Service: Mouse treatment
Visits: Two single-visit treatments (2024 and 2025)

Summary

The customer is Guelph reported mouse activity that was mainly in the attic with only minor activity in the home. Our team completed two separate mouse treatments for reported attic activity at a residential property in Guelph. Both visits involved inspection and treatment only, with no follow-up visits requested. Previous ground-level exclusion work completed in 2023 addressed house mouse risks but did not cover roofline vulnerabilities associated with attic-only activity.

Background / Property Context

The home is a typical two-story structure with aluminum siding, a raised foundation, and a front deck with an overhang. These features can create concealed access points along the roofline and drip edge if not fully sealed.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported hearing or observing mouse activity in the attic. There was minimal evidence of activity inside the living areas of the home during both service periods.

Inspection & Findings

During the first visit, the exterior was inspected for potential entry points. Openings were observed along the drip edge of the roofline, with cumulative gaps measuring approximately 26 linear feet. Interior inspection found limited evidence within the home itself, consistent with attic-focused activity.

During the second visit in 2025, the inspection findings were consistent with the earlier assessment. No new exclusion work had been completed since the previous service.

Cause Analysis

Ground-level exclusion completed previously is effective for house mice that enter at or near grade. Attic-only mouse activity is commonly associated with wild mice accessing rooflines, soffits, or drip edges. Unsealed roofline gaps can allow repeated access despite ground-level exclusion being in place.

Treatment / Removal

On both visits, licensed exterminators performed on-site mouse treatments using tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide. All pest control work was completed in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. No rebait or recall visits were requested following either treatment.

Exclusion & Repairs

Roofline exclusion was identified as necessary to address attic-only mouse access. During the first visit, the homeowner indicated they would complete the drip edge sealing themselves. By the second visit, this work had not been completed. A new exclusion quote was not provided at that time, as the previously identified work remained outstanding.

Outcome & Confirmation

Following each treatment, no additional service visits were requested. Because roofline exclusion was not completed, the potential for continued attic access remained. No further confirmation of activity was reported after each individual service visit.

Technician Notes

The inspections and treatments were carried out by technician Shaohua, who documented roofline openings consistent with attic access points and completed both treatments as single-visit services without scheduled follow-ups.
